Inner Austin Wedding Venues | Epoch Co+ | Austin, Texas

Last week we curated a list of some of our favorite venues surrounding Austin, Texas, below is a list of Austin wedding venues that are truly downtown. With lots of cool hotels, and ultra chic venues, this was hard to narrow down. Just like last week, we also made wedding mood board ideas that we’d love to see come to life (and help make come to life) at each space. Fueled by a deep love of Austin and the wide array of styles/vibes you can find downtown alone, this wide array of mood boards came to life.

Commodore Perry Interior Designed by Ken Fulk

First on the list looks like it was plucked right out of Italy. Owned by the Auberge Collection, Commodore Perry is a stunning estate found just North of Central Austin. Meticulously and exquisitely designed by Ken Fulk, you won’t find another property like this. Their Mansion and Sunken gardens are where most of the wedding magic happens, and they’re stunningly groomed. At the heart of the mansion garden is a beautiful fountain, the perfect backdrop for your ceremony or heart of your cocktail hour. The Sunken Garden is our favorite - it has four sections with a fountain at the center that is perfect for some al fresco (or tented) dining. The stairs leading up to the chapel and Lutie’s is another stunning ceremony spot. The chapel is the perfect rain plan for your ceremony, or dance party area. Last, but certainly not least, is Lutie’s - the gorgeous garden restaurant which would be perfect for rehearsal dinners or post-wedding brunches.

Moody Lake Como Wedding Inspiration Board

Inspired by Lake Como in Italy, this felt perfect for the Italian vibes at Commodore Perry. Touches of Italy, nature, and pure sophistication drove this moody neutral wedding inspiration board. With moody blacks and olive greens, balanced with some warm neutrals, this is perfect for a classy, moody, chic wedding.

South Congress Hotel Exterior

Next up is South Congress Hotel, found on, you guessed it, South Congress Avenue. The hotel itself is a stunner, with its true-to-Austin modern, yet retro feel. Found on the first floor to the back of the hotel (which means further off the street), are their three larger event spaces. First being their courtyard which makes for a fabulous ceremony option for a larger crowd, complete with lush trees and lots of modern windows on the hotel-side. Their pre-function space is perfect for cocktail hour - allowing guests to flow between an outdoor ceremony before entering your stunning reception space. Last is their event space, with capacity for up to 250 guests, it’s extraordinarily flexible, and complete with a simple yet modern design, ready to be filled with whatever your heart desires. If you’re looking for a smaller event, they do also have two restaurants you can private dine at or buy-out. Maie Day can host up to 75 guests seated for their buy out, and Cafe No Se can host up to 100 with theirs. If you’re looking for a space that is not only in Austin, but screams “Austin”, South Congress Hotel would be perfect for you.

Since South Congress Hotels’ event spaces are truly a blank canvas, they can take a lot of color. Inspired by Provence and Champagne, France, we brought in the perfect amount of lavender, buttercream yellow, and a pop of grassy lime. This would make for a stunning spring/summer event, or a fun break from the herd in the fall.

Hotel Magdalena Poolside Bar with Fun Lounge

Hotel Magdalena is a new find for us, but we fell in love at first sight. Tucked back on Music Lane, you’re right in Downtown Austin, but it sure doesn’t feel like it. Previously owned by Willie Nelson and home to many musicians in the ‘70s, ‘Maggie’ to those in the know, stuck to those cool retro vibes with modern touch ups. Hotel Magdalena reminds me of the mediterranean with all of it’s wood and stone aspects and almost overgrown greenery. They have a couple of event spaces, but the Bobbie Nelson room + lawn, and pool + pool bar would be the best for wedding festivities. The Bobbie Nelson room + lawn is a great indoor/outdoor flex space for roughly 150 guests. The lawn can definitely hold a tent in case of any crazy Texas weather. One of their newer additions, the pool and pool bar would be perfect for a fun in the sun bachelor/bachelorette party.

Pretty in Pink Wedding Inspiration Board

We love a good maximalist monochromatic look, and with the warm-neutral indoor and outdoor event spaces at Hotel Magdalena, it can handle tons of tone on tone pinks. The retro vibes of the images of this wedding inspiration perfectly lends itself to the retro feel at the hotel.

Mattie's Mezzanine Event Space

Mattie’s at Green Pastures is an exceptional restaurant set right off of Oltorf. Surrounded by tons of trees, you’d never know that this is right in downtown. Mattie’s is a historic home that was turned into a restaurant named Green Pastures, and later renamed after the original lady of the house, “Mattie.” Mattie’s has two areas for larger scale events, the Mezzanine (the third floor of the house) for up to 50 guests, and the Marion Hall/Pavilion which can seat up to 150. Their lawn makes for a stunning ceremony spot that flows perfectly to their tented pavilion and porch for cocktail hour. You can’t go wrong with Mattie’s, if for nothing other than their delicious upscale southern comfort food!

With a deep love for Italy, and the vibes of the Amalfi Coast, that’s where we pulled inspiration from for a mood board we’d love to bring to life at Mattie’s. Rather than neutrals with a pop of yellows and blues, we wanted the focus to be lemon-y yellows and light sea blues, with a pop of stone and woods for a neutral touch.

The Riley Building Rooftop Event Space

Last but not least, is The Riley Building, two blocks from Sixth Street. If you love the club and bar vibes, you’ll LOVE The Riley. It’s all black exterior and rooftop reception space, you truly can bring the club to your wedding. The covered rooftop is the perfect party spot - with the views and hustle and bustle of downtown, if you like that vibe, you’ll fall in love. They have a seated capacity of 150, and a standing capacity of 250 per floor. This would be the perfect space to have what we call, a ‘strolling reception’ with multiple food stations for your guests to roam and try. With some comfy seating all around, you could have a party all night long!

Summer in Sicily Wedding Inspiration Board

With all the black and modern touches at The Riley, having ultra fun pops of color can really stand out here. A bright Persimmon paired with a fun, pink-y coral, and a touch of cream and deep olive, reminiscent of summertime in Sicily, would be epic.

We hope you loved our Austin wedding venue round up, be sure to check out our surrounding Austin wedding venue guide as well!
